Pack-Wide
Family Camping Activity:
This will be our first family camping activity for our pack! We will be tent camping at one of the group camping sites at Bull Run Park near Centerville, VA May 19-20. The cost per camper will be about $5, which will cover both the campsite and picnic shelter rental. Families will be responsible for tents, camping supplies, and food. Families may want to get together at the den level to jointly plan and prepare meals. Volunteers are needed to form a committee for this event. Please see Brian Shiflett (703-737-3325) if you are interested in serving on this committee. There will also be a sign-up list at tonight’s pack meeting for volunteers. Families that would prefer not to camp may join the pack at Bull Run Park during the day on Saturday, May 19 for activities.
The video “It Happened to Me” is part of the BSA’s Youth Protection training and has been approved for children as young as 6 years old. This award winning video was produced by the BSA as a tool for educating Cub Scout-age boys about child sexual abuse and the steps boys could take to protect themselves from being sexually abused. We would like to encourage everyone to remain for the showing of this video after tonight’s pack meeting. Your viewing of this video will help to provide a common point of reference for subsequent conversations you and your son might have on this topic. The length of the video is approximately 25 minutes. Parents must be present and are required to sit with their child/children during the viewing. We would like for everyone who attends the viewing to leave immediately after the film. This will allow time for parents to answer or respond to any questions or comments your child might have pertaining to the film.
May
Pack Meeting:
The May pack meeting will be held on May 14. Immediately following this meeting, all neckerchiefs will be collected, so they can be washed, ironed and prepared for the June Pack meeting crossover for all scouts. Since all scouts will be moving up in rank, they will be receiving their new rank neckerchief at the crossover. Please turn in the neckerchiefs to your child’s den leaders.
New Volunteer Coordinators:
Pack 958 would like to welcome John and Sharon Hurst as our new volunteer coordinators! Our pack is run entirely by volunteers, so please feel free to contact either John or Sharon whenever you feel the desire to volunteer your talents, skills, time, or energy!
June
Picnic:
Our final pack meeting for this year will be held on Sunday, June 3. Our picnic will be held at Ida Lee Park at the gazebo by the playground. We will be having Cub Mobile races as our pre-dinner activity. Enclosed with this newsletter is a copy of the Cub Mobile plans (graciously provided by Joe Shields!). Each den will need to make one Cub Mobile for this exciting racing event!

Are you an Isaac Walton League member? Please contact Jen Manno at 703-779-4785.
…that Pack 958 rechartered 74 boys for our new year of scouting?
…that our pack is going to be introducing the “Cub Scouting Family Activity Program” in the near future? This is a program where families work at their own rate and are awarded a family certificate and a patch for each family member once the program is completed. Be on the lookout for more information regarding this program. It is a great way to build and maintain the family unit!
Summer
Camps:
Don’t forget to sign your cub up for summer day camp by April 9th (to receive the discount). Forms are available through your child’s den leader(s). Wolves and Bears day camp is June 18-22 at JR Festival Lakes and Webelos day camp is June 25-28 at Isaac Walton League.
Webelos resident camp will be held at Goshen. This program centers around activities that foster self-discovery, confidence, teamwork, communication, and group process skills. Don Bolar has volunteered to coordinate this event. More information will be forthcoming.
Boy Scout Camporee:
The upcoming April Boy Scout Camporee will be allowing Webelos to visit this camporee on April 21 to see displays and demonstrations. If your den is interested in paying a visit, please talk to Mark Richard or Jen Manno for information and directions.

Summer
Pack-Wide Events:
We are in the process of planning the summer events for our pack. We would like to provide two activities or outings for each month in the summer. Do you have any ideas as to what kind of activities you would like to see our pack plan? Please share your thoughts with one of the committee members or with your den leader. Cubs who participate in at least three activities through the summer will receive a summer activity award. Help us plan activities that will excite the boys in our pack by sharing your ideas and offering your support.
